Adipex, officially known as Adipex-P, is a brand weight loss medication, which contains phentermine as the active ingredient and is manufactured by GATE Pharmaceuticals - now part of Teva Pharmaceuticals.
Adipex is prescribed in conjunction with a program of exercise and a restricted diet to help obese individuals lose weight. It is important that patients taking Adipex adopt new ways of eating and increased levels of exercise in order to achieve maximum weight loss. These new behaviors should be continued after the course of Adipex has finished to avoid gaining back the weight lost.
Adipex is a controlled substance and can be habit forming. The FDA recommends that Adipex be used for a period of no longer than 3 months.
Adipex is available in either tablet or capsule form; both versions of Adipex contain 37.5mg of phentermine.
Adipex tablets are oblong in shape, predominately white with blue speckles and scored.
Adipex capsules are light blue and white with two blue bands.
